The Power Facial: A Journey to Youthful Skin
There is a facial, a kind of supercharged ritual, that I have never shared before. It is a facial on steroids, a potent combination of red light therapy, exfoliating acids, and deep microneedling. And I want to take you through it, step by step, because the results can be truly transformative—like looking ten years younger.
But before we begin, I must tell you a very important truth. This is not for beginners. This facial is only for those who have completed at least twenty sessions with a microneedling tool. Why? Because when you over-exfoliate, over-microneedle, you overdo it, and you harm your skin instead of helping it. I have been microneedling my skin for nine and a half years, so I know what I am doing. You must be experienced, too.
Preparing the Canvas: Red Light and Exfoliation
We start with red light therapy. I turn it on and let it bathe my skin while I prepare the next steps. Then, I take a powerful exfoliating acid—a kombucha-derived 10% AHA peel, which contains 7% lactic acid and 3% glycolic acid. This is an overnight resurfacing peel, but today I am using it as a pre-treatment. I take a small amount on a cotton round and gently exfoliate my face. Lactic and glycolic acids are anti-aging powerhouses. I do not use this too often—twice a month, maybe three times, usually before bed. But today, for this mega session, it is part of the plan.
The Numbing Cream: A Delicate Balance
Next, I apply a numbing cream. I am not a fan of heavy lidocaine because it numbs the skin too much. When you cannot feel anything, you cannot tell how deep the needle is going, and that can lead to damage. I use a very light 5% lidocaine cream. It helps a little, but I still feel something. That is exactly what I want. I apply a thick layer to my forehead, cheeks, and neck, and I wait ten minutes. The forehead is the most painful area because it has very little fat, while the cheeks are the least painful because they have more fat. After ten minutes, I remove the cream with a dedicated face towel. My skin is numb, but I can still feel it—perfect.
Disinfecting and Preparing the Tool
I then cleanse my skin with a liquid oxygen foam cleanser to remove any residue from the numbing cream. I make sure to rinse thoroughly with filtered water, not tap water. I have two dermarollers: a regular one and one with a replaceable head. I choose the replaceable head model because it comes pre-sterilized in a gas-sealed box. I remove the 0.5mm head and replace it with a 1mm head. This is the depth I will use for this facial. Remember, for anti-aging purposes, 1mm is the maximum. Deeper is not better unless you are treating severe acne scars. For aging, 1mm is enough.
The Microneedling Ritual
I start with my forehead. I roll the dermaroller twenty times horizontally and twenty times vertically. But here is the key: you must lift the roller off the skin between each pass. Do not slide it. Lift, lift, lift. If you slide, the needles enter the same holes repeatedly, which can cause unnecessary damage. Bleeding is not okay. Redness is fine. I give extra attention to my 11 lines between the brows, and I even do straight lines upward to lift my brows. Yes, I want my brows lifted. Who doesn't want lifted brows? I do ten passes in each direction on each brow.
Then I move to my cheeks. I roll twenty times up and twenty times sideways on each cheek, applying gentle pressure. I do the same on my nose to shrink pores and blackheads, and above my lips, which is sensitive but worth it for long-term smoothness. Finally, I work on my neck, focusing on the area under my chin and the sides to help with sagging. I avoid the thyroid area. If you do nothing else, at least do this part under your chin—you will thank me when you are sixty.
Disinfecting the Tool
After I finish, I replace the used 1mm head carefully. I place the original 0.5mm head back into the case and then disinfect the entire tool with liquid oxygen. I let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse with filtered water and leave the lid sideways to dry. The next day, I close the case normally. Now the tool is clean and ready for next time.
Amplifying the Results: Serums and Mask
With the channels of my skin open from the microneedling, it is time to apply serums that will be deeply absorbed and amplified. I use three pumps each of my three favorite serums: a vitamin C serum for antioxidant and anti-aging benefits, a hyaluronic acid serum for hydration and plumping, and a peptide serum for tightening. I mix them together in my palm and gently dab them onto my skin. No rubbing, no circular motions—just gentle patting. I feel a slight tingling, which is normal. My skin already feels plumper.
To seal everything in, I apply a hydrogel sheet mask—a skin superfood mask that maximizes hydration. It feels like an orgasm for my skin. I leave it on for about ten to twenty minutes until it dries, and then I gently press the leftover essence into my neck.
Aftercare: The Golden Rules
Now, here is the most important part. After this facial, you must not go outside for at least three days without SPF. If you have to go out, triple layer your sunscreen, wear big sunglasses, and a big hat. Do not go to the beach or sunbathe for at least five days. No exfoliating, no scrubbing for three days. Avoid the gym for twenty-four hours because sweat will sting. No sauna for twenty-four hours for the same reason. This 1mm microneedling should not be done more than once a month. If you have sensitive skin, wait five to six weeks. If your skin is very severely sensitive, do not do this at all—stick to my 0.25mm routine for sensitive skin.
And remember, this is an advanced technique. Do not attempt it unless you have done at least twenty microneedling sessions. Your skin is precious. Treat it with respect, and it will reward you with a youthful glow.
