The Art of the Dermaroller: A Guide to Deep Skin Renewal at Home
Let me share something I've learned on this journey of caring for my skin. This is my skin after micro needling, and I want to walk you through what's happening here. We are going to talk about wrinkles and how to use a quite deep size—the 0.75 mm Dermaroller. This is a deeper size, meant for advanced users or for those who have really deep acne scars.
When you open the packaging, it always comes with a table showing how often you should use each size. Always check what is inside the box. When the Dermaroller arrives like this, it comes already disinfected. You do not need to additionally disinfect it. (If you want to know how to disinfect your Dermaroller yourself, I have a dedicated video for that.) Before you begin, you do have to disinfect your skin. For this size, I use oxygen liquid foam therapy—a foam cleanser I highly recommend because it is in liquid oxygen form. I also have a towel that I use only for my skin for this reason; this is not a random hand towel, but one reserved specifically for disinfecting my skin.
The 0.75 mm size is really great for deep acne scars, deep lines, and for those who are already advanced—meaning you have been using 0.5 mm, you went gradually to 0.5 mm, and now you want something stronger for your lines, pigmentation, or anything else. It helps to tighten, to give your skin a glow, to make you look youthful, to make you feel good. If you don't want that, that's fine. This is for the people who actually want a holistic approach to skincare—something you can learn from watching my videos, do at home, and actually see amazing results.
Why Needle Quality Matters
I have seen incredible results from a few of my clients using this Dermaroller. Of course, this is a real, individual needle trademark Dermaroller—I am the only one in the world who has these. They have really great medical quality needles. These needles are acupuncture-type needles, not those needles that most Dermarollers have with wheels like that. If you split open your Dermaroller at home, I guarantee you will find that kind of wheel. Do you want to use something like that on your skin? That's up to you, but it is not great because it will scar your skin and cause possibly long healing. In contrast, this one heals much faster and is not as painful. More needles does not mean better results. With 75 needles, it looks like this—you can see the actual needles inside from the side, and the size is 0.75 mm.
The Application Process
Now, what do I do right now? You can apply serum or cream before, or you can apply after—it really doesn't matter. I am going to apply right now, before the procedure. I have a peptide syrup which I really love—peptides combined with hyaluronic acid. I'll be using the peptide today. It is firming and anti-aging, like a foundation of firmness for your skin. I take about four or five pumps and apply it evenly everywhere on my skin, very gently without much rubbing. Then I will also apply more afterward.
This is an updated 0.75 mm Dermaroller for 2025. There's not much difference, but I'll see what happens because this needle size is big. To be honest, I hadn't used a 0.75 mm needle in a really long time. I will not do my neck now—I have a dedicated routine for that. Let's begin. I always start with the Dermaroller, and wow, I haven't used this in a while. But you know what? I gave birth 5 months ago naturally with no drugs, so I can handle this too.
I will do probably 10 times since this is advanced. Wow, I feel it. Maybe next time I need to get lidocaine—you can order it on Amazon, and I'll put a link in the description for which one is best. Actually, no labor was more painful, but I can handle that too. You don't have to press hard. Sometimes people ask me how hard to press—it's like how you shave your armpits with a razor. The same way. I will just literally tap like that, tap like that, tap like that. You do not want to go back and forth like that—it's not good. Make sure you get more punctures, the better. If you go back and forth, you will puncture the same exact spot in the same hole, and we don't want that. You can do 10 times like this: one, two, three; one, two, three; one, two, three. Then I go vertical. Rolling your forehead slightly gently is going to lift your eyebrows as well—you are going to have lifted eyebrows. I kind of do three, three, three because it is kind of painful. I wish I had lidocaine.
Who Is a Great Candidate for This Size?
If you are over 45 and have really deep wrinkles, I recommend this Dermaroller size. If you have deep acne scars, really bad melasma, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, or any other similar situation, this is great. I will do extra here, like 15 times for my eleven lines, because I have them deep. By the way, I have no Botox, no fillers, no lasers. I do only this at home. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten; and like that, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Fifteen times. Now I will go a little more into the brows. You can do diagonal, but this size is really deep—it is up to you. You can go a little bit more extra diagonally, but I want to lift my brows. I will go straight, straight, straight. Don't make it round—don't do this—always straight and always lift. The forehead is the most painful part of your body because we don't have much fat there. On the cheeks, it won't hurt as much as on the forehead.
Let's move to the cheeks, which is the easier part. I notice it is easier to keep moving for one space rather than rolling one time. For this size, it is not meant to be used around the eyes, so don't go here. Just right here, do 10 times over each entire cheek, then horizontal the same way. You can apply a little bit slightly more pressure—I do. Wow, it feels good.
The Truth About Bleeding
With Dermarolling and micro needling, you do not have to bleed to see results. This is the biggest myth in the micro needling industry. You do not have to bleed. It is going to be red, that is totally fine. Let's go to this cheek—10 times up and 10 times to the side, so vertical and horizontal total 20 times. If you feel you want to use 15 times, that is okay. If you have sensitive skin, use up to 10 times. If not sensitive, you can use up to 15 or even 20 times. Feel it out. There is no strict rule—every skin is very different. I have a friend who loves micro needling but her skin is so extremely sensitive that she cannot use this more than once a month. You know your skin the best. I cannot tell you to use it every two weeks if you see your skin is extremely sensitive. Please don't use it more often.
I will do a little more here where I see the smile lines. I am just going through that line—it is not entering the dermis because of the size of the Dermaroller. So do not worry. You should not bleed. You might bleed a little bit with 1 mm and higher. I do not recommend using a size bigger than 1 mm for micro needling at home—that is more for clinical grade.
A little more love on the upper lip, which is sensitive. This is a great way to avoid, prevent, and get rid of smoker lines, nasal labial folds, and marionette lines. On the chin, I do small strokes because if you drag the Dermaroller, it's not okay. You want to strike in a straight line, like this, like this. A little bit on the jawline to tighten it—slightly above the lip, no pressure. If you want to do your nose, that's fine. You do not have to Dermaroll for more than 5 to 8 minutes. If you are really advanced and have been using this for over a year, you can use up to 10 minutes. Longer or bigger size does not mean better results.
Where I Have the Biggest Issue
I still ask myself where I have the biggest issue—probably my eleven lines. So I will go a little more here, diagonally: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen; and like that, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen. Done.
Now I will apply the foam cleanser to disinfect. In 5 minutes, I will rinse with filtered water. That's how you disinfect the Dermaroller. I applied peptide, and you might have dry skin for the next couple of days—that's normal. I recommend applying a vitamin C cream. This is sodium ascorbyl phosphate, not L-ascorbic acid. Please do not use L-ascorbic acid on your skin after micro needling—that is not okay. Look for the name "sodium ascorbyl phosphate" because it is the most gentle and most bioavailable form for use after micro needling. Invest in this—it is toxic-free, non-irritating, and specifically designed for use after micro needling. This cream also contains squalene, which is hydrating and nourishing. After applying peptide and vitamin C, if your skin feels dry, use a sheet mask.
Aftercare: What to Do and Avoid
After this, you want to avoid sun. Wear SPF if you go outside for the next 72 hours. Yes, you can use micro needling in summer—just have a hat, sunglasses, and reapply sunscreen. Make sure your sunscreen is mineral-based. Avoid working out for one day, avoid sweating for one day. Make sure you eat well, drink enough water, and take your omegas, which also impact whether your skin is dry or not. If your skin is really dry next time, use a smaller size and fewer strokes in one direction. That means you overdid it a little. A little peeling and dryness is okay—you should not bleed. Hydrate.
This micro needling size (0.75 mm) did not pass the epidermis. The epidermis is this outer layer, and we did not pass that layer. The dermis is underneath. If you use a 1 mm Dermaroller, you will pass into the dermis and bleed a little bit. But this size stays safely in the epidermis.
A Personal Closing Thought
This is my family—my mom and my son. This is my skin after micro needling. My son asks, "Mommy, what are you doing here? Mommy, why are you so red?" I tell him, "Mommy just finished Dermarolling."
